Happy Friday the 13th.

Here’s what’s going on: Samsung unveiled two new Galaxy Tab S tablets yesterday, and they’re worth taking a look at. Both the 8.4″ and 10.5″ models are slimmer and faster (and yet the same price) as the iPad mini and iPad Air, respectively.

Good morning, it’s Friday the 13th — and maybe Apple should be worried. At an event here in New York City last night, Samsung unveiled new tablets aimed squarely at the iPad mini and iPad Air.

The new Galaxy Tab S comes in 8.4 inches or 10.5 inches, and despite featuring slightly lager (and higher-res) displays, the tablets are thinner, faster, lighter and (most interestingly) exactly the same price as Apple’s iPads. The smaller version will go fro $400, while the 10.5″ model will be $500.

The new tablets are also the first tablets on the market to feature AMOLED displays. That means their screens boast deeper blacks and richer colors than any other tablet around.

Early reviews of the new screen technology are overwhelmingly positive, take a look >>

Samsung is loading up the new devices with free content. The Tab S comes with limited free access to Gogo In-flight Wi-Fi, a 12-month subscription to Bloomberg BusinessWeek, 6-month subscription to The Wall Street Journal and The Washington post, 3-month subscription to The New York Times, 3 months free Sirius XM Radio, and 3 months free subscription to Audible.

Finally, you won’t be surprised to learn the new tablets take cues from their latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5. The back of the device features the same dimpled-plastic finish found on the S5, and the software (which is Samsung’s take on Android 4.4 KitKat) will feel familiar to anyone using a Samsung phone.
